MANUREWA AFFAIRS
CLAIMS AGAINST TOWN BOARD At last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board, a claim was received from Mrs. Blanpied’s solicitors for £137 3s 3d in respect of work done by the former’s employees in completion of improvements effected by the board to her property fronting the Great South Road. On the chairman’s suggestion, it was decided to admit liability only in regard to the work of the carriage entrances, this work having been delayed by adverse "weather. “Absolutely ridiculous! ” was the opinion expressed by Mr. Ferguson in reference to a claim by Mr. Holmes for £460 for damages alleged to have been done to property as the result of alterations to the Great South Road. It was decided to refer the question to the boards solicitors,, advising them of what had been done, and that the board repudiated the claim. -As the result of a deputation from the board, the Railway Department promised consideration of the request to provide an improved passenger service. In accordance with notice of motion, it was decided that future meetings be held on alternate Mondays, instead of the first and third Mondays in each month. The Manukau County Council wrote stating that the No. 2 District Highways Council had recommended that proposals be submitted at an early date for the renewal of the bridge over the Takanini Stream, on the southern boundary of the town district. It was stated that the county engineer was preparing plans and specifications, which would be submitted in due course. The board was asked to state what proportion of the costs it would be willing to bear, the total estimate being approximately £2,500. After some discussion it was decided to confer with the council at its next meeting.
