DANCE AT OPUA

FUNDS FOR THE HALL Opua took the opportunity of the \ isiv of the Chamber of Commerce train to hold a dance in order to raise funds for the Opua Hall. It was a most successful function and several Auckland’s business men stepped a measure until the small hours. The hall was beautifully decorated 1 with palm fronds and coloured streamers, and George’s Maori Band supplied excellent music. Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of the New Zealand Railways, and Air. Julian B. Foster, United States Trade Commissioner, judged the fancy costumes and awarded the prizes as follows:—Mrs. E. Clarke (harem lady) and Mr. Brook (sheik). Miss Alyra Valentine was awarded a prize for the most original lady’s dress and Air. Aldeton for the men’s. During the evening a competition for a Christmas cake was held, the winner being Mr. A. K. North. MessrsJ. Alorgan and W. Redfern conducted the dance and saw to it that no one lacked a partner.
