TAMAKI BOATING CLUB
MASQUERADE DANCE In large numbers members and friends of the Tamaki Boating Club attended a fancy dress dance held in St. Andrew’s Hall, Station Road, Otahuhu, on Saturday evening. The hall had been prettily decorated with streamers and balloons, and made an effective setting for the many gailyfrocked dancers. Messrs. L. Clark and P. Wheeler acted as M.C.’s, and the dance music was provided by Mesdames Viney, Fugle, McDowell, Wheeler and Mr. Ashcroft. A couple _of novelty competitions added gaiety to the function, a bagbursting competition and a candle competition were won by Miss W. Hill, and a spot waltz was won by Mr. N. Clark and Miss A. Clark. During the evening very enjoyable musical items were given by Mr. Bowling, vocal solo; Mrs. Fugle and Miss A. Clark, duet; Mr. Scott, humorous monologue. The judging of the fancy costumes was carried out by Mesdames Clements, Walters and Ashcroft, and the awards were as follows: Best Fancy Costume.—Ladies, Miss lona McFarlane, queen of the harem, 1; Miss G. Wattam, Miss Carnival, 2. Men: Mr. Li. Clark, hula girl, I; Mr. R. Pankhurst, Mr. Wu, 2. Children’s Section.—Girls Miss C. Bowling, -white and silver fairy. Boys: Master G. Fugle, 1; Master George Viney, jazz pierrot, 2. Special prize: Mr. and Mrs. Perry Wheeler, poor but honest. Among those present in fancy costume were: Mrs. Percy Wheelei', poor but honest; Mrs. McDowell, queen of clubs; Miss L. Pointon, nurse; Miss Gertie McCrory, Spanish lady; Miss C. Bowling, white and silver fairy; Miss Avis Clark, Turkish lady; Hiss J. Ashcroft, two blues; Miss D. Nicholas, jazz lady; Miss IT. Clouston, Spanish dancer; Miss G. Wattam, Miss Carnival; Miss Jean White, Siberian; Miss Hazel Johnson, Indian gipsy; Miss W. Hill, olde English beefeater; Miss Barbara Bailey, fairy; Miss lona McFarlane, queen of the harem; Miss Mavis White, Spanish gipsy; Miss V. Pankhurst, gipsy dancer; Miss D. Bowling, Romany girl; Mr. N. Clark, gipsy; Mr. K. Highfield, French clown; Mr. C. Rosewarne, Olde England; Mr. P. Wheeler, poor but honest; Mr. Harold Clark, Sambo; Mr. R. Pankhurst, Mr. Wu; Mr. W.
