“GOVERNMENT VENTURES PROVE PROFITABLE”
SIR I. GUNSON'S CAMPAIGN Some 90 electors heard Sir James Gunson, Reform candidate for Suburbs, at Hobsonville last evening, and carried a confidence motion unanimously. Sir James dealt largely with the financial position, and remarked on the prosperity of the Post Office and other revenue producing- departments, which had returned £ 6,750,000 last year. He said the afforestation operations of the Government would later prove a great asset. He was in favour of borrowing money for prudent expenditure on utility works. A questioner asked if the purchase of the Trounson Kauri Park was not an extravagance. Sir James said the Government had made a very wise move in conserving a forest without parallel in the world. A vote of confidence proposed by Mr. •I. Sinton and seconded by Mr. W. S. Nixon was carried unanimously, Mr. R, H. Ockleston presided.
