WORKING MEN DRINK
TOO MUCH BEER MR. FITZHERBERT’S OPINION The tendency of the New Zealand j working man to drink too much beer j was cited by Mr. P. B. Fitzherbert. j Reform candidate for Grey Lynn, last j evening, as a primary cause for unemployment. *1 am sorry for the ! woman whose husband comes home ! drunk.” he said. A Voice: I am sorrier for the man. j Tlio candidate admitted that an ' exploitation of the Government’s | immigration policy was also partly I responsible for the state of the country. | "When Mr. Coates went Home,” he j explained— The Same Voice: He drank too ! much beer. “Unemployment was rife in Britain." ! resumed the candidate, “and the Dominion Prime Ministers were urged ! to shoulder some of the Old Country’s burden by taking care of the unemploj ed. This country was in a prosperous condition at the time and Mr. Coates saw na reason why New Zealand should not help.”
