Accused, who was well-dressed, limped slightly and walked into Court this morning, accompanied by his pretty young wife and a policeman. Senior-Sergeant Sweeney said accused took some poison last Saturday night, with the intention of doing away with himself. He had been in the Air Force during the war, and wag involved in a couple of crashes, which had acted detrimentally on his healtn. At the time accused was suffering from a fit of depression and had been unable to get employment anywhere. In reply to questions asked by Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., the accused said he realised his act was a foolish one. He had been in New Zealand five years, and had been married three years. The magistrate expressed the view that accused did not seem to have much to get depressed over, and convicted and discharged him.
