HIT BY FLYING IRON

SHIP’S OWNER KILLED BY EXPLOSION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Thursday. An explosion occurred to-day on board an old paddle-steamer, the Newcastle, which was lying at Rozelle Wharf. The owner, Mr. John Grille, was killed by a piece of scrap-iron, which was hurled for a distance of 50 yards. Another piece of iron struck the side of a house 100 yards away. Among other things it smashed a kitchen dresser. The vessel was being broken up with explosives when Mr. Grille, who was standing clear awaiting the firing of a charge, was struck by the flying piece of scrap-iron. Another man. who was standing close to him and talking to him, escaped Injury.
