WOMAN MURDERED
BROTHER-IN-LAW CUTS OWN THROAT CRIME NEAR MELBOURNE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Wednesday. A case of murder and attempted suicide occurred to-day at Frankston, a Victorian seaside resort, about 20 miles from Melbourne. The dead body of Margaret Searon, aged 66, who had been acting as housekeeper to her brother-in-law, Joseph Livingston, was found in her home. There were severe wounds in her neck. The body was lying face downward in the backyard. Livingston, who is an estate agent, was found in a front room with his throat cut, but able
to speak. The man told the police he had intended to commit suicide, but changed his mind. He was arrested and charged with the murder of the woman. -
GIRL’S DEAD BODY DOUBLE FATALITY FOLLOWS DISCOVERY (United Service) NEW YORK, Wednesday. A double fatality is reported from Lansing. Michigan. Tne driver of a truck discovered the lifeless body of a girl at the side of the road. He stopped to remove it when a car driven at high speed ran into the truck, two occupants of which were killed.
SCREAM COSTS LIFE WOMEN DISTRACT DRIVER’S ATTENTION (United Service) LONDON. Tuesday. An inquest was held at Sheffield concerning the death of a corporation labourer. The evidence showed that two women saw a mouse run into the street and screamed loudly. The driver of a lorry, hearing the screams, jumped from the vehicle, behind which deceased was walking. The lorry was on an incline and it ran back into the two men and killed one immediately. The driver was seriously injured. In returning a verdict of accidental death the coroner remarked that the action of the two women in screaming about a mouse had cost one man his life and the other serious injury.
CHILDREN PERISH FIRE TRAGEDY ON FARM (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Wednesday. A shocking tragedy occurred at Quambatcok, 270 miles northwest of Melbourne. The two children of Mr. Frederick Coles, farmer, were burned to death while they were asleep in an apartment adjoining their home. The mother w’as absent milking a cow. Mr. Coles made a valiant attempt to rescue the children. Eventually he succeeded in finding one of them, who died almost immediately. The father was dreadfully burned.
