N.Z. ORPHANAGES
Sir.— An assertion was'made by a prohibition speaker at the Civic Square a few days ago which calls for comment. The impression was created that the orphanages of this city are used largely to house the children of drunken parents. Now, sir, assertions of this kind against working class mothers and fathers are particularly contemptible and I venture the opinion that, the little tenants of our orphanages will compare favourably both mentally and physically with the inmates of similar institutions in any city of any country on earth ROD ROWLANDS.
