BUSES TO ALBANY
PROPOSALS IN VIEW Albany, which had a .bus service for many years, has for a year been dependent on serviee cars for transport from Birkenhead. Several months ago two applicants were granted service permits by the No. 2 (North Shore) Omnibus Licensing Authority, but, because of the requirements of the Public Works Department and the weight limitations imposed by the Waitemata County Council, neither has been able to start the service. The opinion submitted to the licensing authority last evening was that Albany should have a bus service. The licence holders had tried to get suitable buses, but had not yet completed arrangements. The county was ready to consider re-establishing the bus services. For the Marine Suburbs Company, Mr. Stewart said it was ready to run a bus which would meet requirements, but, before starting, the cars now on the roads would have to go off. Mr. Lynch, who is conducting a service to Highbury, said that, if the company did not begin a service, he would run as far as Glenfield. He submitted a time-table. At his suggestion the application was held over until the company could indicate its intentions, j An extra bus licence was granted Glassey Brothers for the DevonportNarrow Neck route.
