AMATEUR BILLIARDS

CHAMPIONSHIP NEXT WEEK AN IMPORTANT CONTEST The amateur billiards championship of New Zealand has been announced by the secretary of the Auckland Sports Club, Mr. Fred Farrell, to commence at Auckland on November 5. Nominiitions close to-morrow. The big professional exhibition contest which was staged in Auckland recently between the New Zealander, Clark McConachy, and Australian Walter Lindrum, has given the game a healthy rise in popularity, and this has been borne out since in the various contests,, which have all been favoured with large entries and attendances. The coming New Zealand amateur championship can be marked as being more important than any other staged in the Dominion during recent years, as it is hoped to send the winner to represent New Zealand at the next Empire billiards championship, to take place at Johannesburg, South Africa, in April of next year.
