CUSTOMS SHOW BIG INCREASE INFLUX OF SUMMER GOODS The Customs revenue for the port of Auckland showed an increase for last month, when net Customs and tyre tax revenue amounted to £224,470, as compared with £147,596 in October, 1927, and £224,897 in October, 1926, representing an increase in th© first instance of £76,874, and a. small decrease in the second case. Last month’s figures were exceeded only by August: the revenue for August amounting to £227,402. The increased figures are accounted for by the importation of Christmas goods for the shops. The 10-months total for 192 S show that the revenue is lighter than it was during th© corresponding period of the. two previous years. It is £154(760 smaller than in 1927, and £251,401 below that of 1926. • Customs revenue and tyre tax figures for th© first 10 months of 1928, as compared with those for the corresponding period in 1927 and 1926, are as follow:

Last month’s revenue from motor spirit is beaten only by the figures foi last March, when was collected. , »Py r e taxation also returned more, £3 921 being collected last month, as aga'inst £1.898 in September and £3,292 in August. ___
