FATEFUL EXPERIMENT
AMATEUR BOAT-BUILDER DROWNED (Special to THE SUXJ WANGANUI, Wednesday. How two youths here built a 16-foot iron boat, which capsized on its first trial trip, was told at an inquest held to-day into the death of James Marshall Coster, aged 19. A witness stated that he had warned the builders that the boat was unsafe. It was capsized by a sudden gust of wind, and sank immediately. Leslie John Williams, who accompanied deceased, told how he swam to shore. He lost all trace of his companion, who was a good swimmer. The coroner found that deceased met his death accidentally by drowning.
PASSENGERS ON MALOJA. —Russell and Somers, Limited, have received advice that the following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the P. and O. liner Maloja, which is due at Sydney from London to-day:—For Auckland: Mr. Bowley. For Wellington: Miss Needham, Miss Collins, Miss Mine, Mr. Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Dewar and Misses Dewar (2), Mr. Barkla, Mrs. May, four Indians (male), one Indian and infant (female), Mr. Bolt and Mrs. Bolt, Mr. Parker. For Lyttelton: Miss Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Dale, Mr. Jenkins, Mrs. Hanner, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver, infant and nurse (Miss Atcheson).

HAUTURU (7.15 a.m.), 270 tons. Fowler-Jackson, from Raglan and Kawhia.
The Hauturu, which arrived at Onehunga this morning from Raglan, Kawhia and Waikato Heads, sails this afternoon at 3 o’clock for Wanganui. The Ngapuhi, sailing at 4 o’clock this afternoon for New Plymouth, returns to Onehunga at 7.30 a.m. on Saturday.
