THE GIRAFFE
The most direct evidence in support of the belief that the giraffe is dumb came tragically from the London Zoo a good many years ago. when a disastrous fire occurred in the giraffe bouse Two of the poor animals were burned to death, and must have suffered terribly as the straw of their beds blazed fiercely around them. Not one sound did they utter in their agony. In similar circumstances an e!ephant would have shaken the night \rith hi® cries, and a horse would hare been heard in astonishing volume.
