SLAUGHTERMEN CLAIM WAGES
WAITING TIME DURING DISPUTE (Special to THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. j On April 16 slaughtermen at the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company’s works at Pareora ceased work for 2:* hours, alleging that certain wire neck sets, used for securing a sheep’s forelegs to the carcase, were rusty and insanitary. Work was ' resumed on strings being substituted for the wires. In the Magistrate’s Court this morning the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ I Union claimed £lO from the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd., as , wages from 8.15 a.m. until 11 a.m. on | the day in question, the time occupied iin the parley about the sets. The Disputes Committee could not settle the question, nor could the New Zealand Disputes Committee. It was taken to the Arbitration Court, where it was referred to the Magistrate’s Court. Mr. E. D. Mosley, who presided, reserved his decisiort.
