JURY DISAGREES

POSTAL OFFICER’S TRIAL SUPREME COURT AT WELLINGTON Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. At the Supreme Court yesterday Thomas Houston, ‘a postal supervisor, was charged with attempting to steal letters containing money addressed to a local firm, also with stealing a postal packet containing 10s, and three counts of opening postal packets. The jury, aftefc several retirements, disagreed on all charges but that of opening one postal packet, on which they found accused guilty. A new trial was granted, and the judge said he would later hear counsel’s application to set aside the verdict on the ground that it was not a postal packet. Harry Honour pleaded guilty to two. charges of indecent assault on a female child. He was remanded for sentence. The grand jury returned true bills in all four cases on the calendar, and two of the accused pleaded guilty.
