NO CHANGE IN TENURES
MR. SAVAGE GIVES LABOUR’S LAND POLICY Dealing with the land policy of the Labour Party, in his speech at FrankHn Koad last evening, Mr. M j. Savage, Labour candidate for Auckland West, denied that it was the intention of the party to interfere with existing land tenures. “Such a proposal is morally wrong and financially impossible,” he said. The object of the party was to adopt a vigorous programme of land settleand provision was made in the party’s platform for the acquisition of large areas of land, either by negotiation or under the compulsory clauses of the Land Act. The Labour Party contended that people desiring to go on the land and possessing the capital necessary to pay the purchase price, should be allowed to deal with those who had large areas for subdivision. A policy of State acquisition of land should be entered upon for the purpose of settling those with small means. A large audience accorded Mr. Savage a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr. V. Johnson was chairman.
