MR. COATES’S TOUR
DEPUTATIONS RECEIVED DEPARTURE FOR WAIKATO Appointments with deputations and friends, together with his campaign engagements, kept Mr. J. G. Coates busy yesterday. The deputations included a party representing those residents interested in the provision of automatic telephones at Birkenhead and Northcote. Mr. A. Harris, M.P., introduced the speakers, and a plea for the needed service was made by Messrs. E. G. Skeates, Mayor of Birkenhead, and Mr. A. E. Greenslade, Mayor of Northcote. The Prime Minister promised that the request would receive consideration. In the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Coates attended a meeting in the Town Hall concert chamber, arranged by the Women’s Political League, and also paid a visit to the Auckland Infirmary. In the evening he delivered a political address in the Town Hal.
Mr. Coates left this morning for the Waikato in continuation of his tour, and will address meetings at Tuakau this afternoon, and Ngaruawahia this evening.
