CRITICISES REFORM
MR. C. R. PETRIE AT PAPATOETOE Air. C. R. Petrie, official Labour candidate for the Plauraki seat, spent an hour and a-half criticising the platform of the Reform Government, in the Papatoetoe Town Hall last evening. An audience of approximately 300 gave the speaker an attentive hearing. Air. JFranklin occupied the chair. Air. Petrie dealt fully and fearlessly with the “shortcomings of the Government.” Referring to the United Party, the speaker said that it was anything but united, each candidate coming forward with a different platform. Sir Joseph Ward had criticised the Government for borrowing £14.000,000 in two years, but he intended to borrow £70,000,000 in 10 ears, himself. If the Reform Government had to pay interest, how could Sir Joceph borrow the £70,000,000 without costing the country anything? If the amount now being borrowed was increased, the country would go bankrupt. After answering a numbtr of questions, Air. Petrie was accoW’ t " : ; n unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
