“MAN’S ANTHEM—WOMAN”
LORD DEWAR’S WIT (United P.A.■ —By Telegraph—Copyright) (United Service) LONDON, Wednesday. The bachelor Lord Dewar, head of the distilling firm, who is famous for his after-dinner epigrams, has coined a new collection on “Man’s Anthem—Woman.” In proposing the toast of the ladies at the Poultry Club’s banquet, he said: “The world needs more permanent wives and fewer permanent waves. “It is woman’s duty to provide for the inner man, and man’s duty is to provide for the outer woman. “A man should be judged by his wife’s clothes, which cost more thau in the Garden of Eden, but are they not worth it? “Brevity is the soul of this frock business. “Women display more backbone than men. “When a man bares his shoulders he catches a cold. When a girl bares her shoulders she catches a husband. “The lives of some mothers are one darned stocking after another.”
