COUNCIL OF WOMEN
TO HOLD GARDEN PARTY On Saturday, November 3, the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women will hold a garden party at the residence of Mrs. A. M. Ferguson, 20 Victoria. Avenue, in an endeavour to raise funds lor conference expenses and other things. There will he a number of stalls, for which gifts of cake, flowers, produce,, sweets, needlework and novelties a.re needed, and the council appeals to its members and supporters to assist as much as they can. Those people who cannot bring their gifts may leave them with Miss Quayle, at the Wattle tea-rooms, 175 Queen Street; Mrs. Howden, 57 Great South Road. Remuera, or the secretary, Miss C. J. Flatt, 40 Great South Road, Remuera. ✓ The stall-lioldei-s will be as follow: Sweets and cakes, Mrs. Howden; produce, flowers, etc., Mrs. Wickstead; needlework. novelties, etc., Miss Ernest: guessing competition, Mrs. Russell; numerology, Mrs. Axford; afternoon tea, Mrs. Prendergast and ladies, of the Query Club. VICTORIA LEAGUE GIRLS ENTERTAIN GUESTS A most enjoyable evening was given by the Victoria League Girls’ Committee in the league rooms on Thursday. The guests of honour were Miss Eileen Myers, who is on a visit to her native land, and Miss Rona Thomson and Miss Kitty Horsley, who have just returned from a trip to England and the Continent. Miss Mowbray welcomed the guests and presented each with a posy of flowers. Amusing games and competitions were played, the winners being the Misses Redstone, Rainger, and Langsford. A piano solo was played by Miss Langsford and a recitation was given by Miss Redstone. PAPATOETOE ORANGE LODGE ENJOYABLE SOCIAL A very enjoyable social evening was held by the members of the Loyal Papatoetoe Orange Lodge, and their friends, in the Methodist School Hall, Kolmar Road, Papatoetoe, on Tuesday evening. A good assortment of gifts were collected. These are to be disposed of at the opening of the new hall on Saturday, November 17, for the purpose of swelling the funds of the lodge. ' The evening was spent in games and competitions, and a very enjoyable musical programme was provided by the following: Orchestral trio, “Ramona” and “Diane,” Mrs. R. Henderson, piano, Mr. A. Buller, saxaphone, Mr. S. Notton, cornet ; song, “Manuka,” Mr. R. Henderson: mandolin solo, Mr. Catterall; comedy sketeh, “Another Pair of Spectacles,” Miss Ruby Wallace, Mr. A. C- Moore. Mr. R. Henderson; Spanish dance, Miss Gladys McCauley; saxophone solo, Mr. A. Buller; elocutionary item. “Saraphobia,” Miss Ruby Wallace. Mr. P. Fell occupied the chair, and Mrs. R. Henderson acted as j accompanist.
