PERJURY ALLEGED
BUILDER’S CONTRACT CASE AT DANNEVIRKE Press Association DANNEVIRKE, Wednesday. That defendant had asked him to give false evidence was the charge made by a witness in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. Inquiries are being made. James Joseph Anderson, builder, Darinevirke, proceeded against James Humphreys, builder, Dannevirke, for £62 17s. being the amount alleged to be due in connection with a building ContractDefendant in his evidence alleged that he had made two payments to Anderson of £SO each, and had obtained receipts for them. A witness stated that Humphreys had asked him to give evidence oh his behalf against Anderson, and to say that he had seen Humphreys band over £SO to Anderson. Witness said he had told Humphreys it was absolute perjury, and that he was not going to risk getting six months in prison. He had never been a witness of such a transaction. - The magistrate said he disbelieved defendant’s evidence. He was most unreliable and his evidence most unsavoury. Defendant had committed perjury. The magistrate made an order that all the documents in the case be ira-. pounded, pending further inquiry. Judgment on the claim was given for the plaintiff for £6O.
