ON THE WINNERS
FRANCE AND GILL TE AWAMUTU TRAINERS AGAIN One of the most interesting: features of the Waikato meeting: on Saturday and Wednesday was the success attained by the apprentice jockey, Iv. Gill, and the Hawke’s Bay horseman, C. W. France. The apprentice had a great run. steering three winners—Komak, Love Call and the dead-heater Indolent. In addition he rode a second and two thirds. He missed at Cambridge on Monday. Even better was France's record, with his wins on Valkon, Schorr and Foreign Fancy, and his seconds on Awamutu (twice) and Schorr. In addition, he travelled to Waverley and was on the Maiden winner there on Monday. The Ellerslie horseman, J. Cammick, also piloted'a couple of winners, Corinax and Leitrim, being on the latter on Monday also. H. Lee came home first on Flying Prince and Te Ngeru. Other successful riders on Saturday and 'Wednesday at Te Rapa -were:—N. Syme (Mangani), P. Brady (Nancy Lee), Lick (Speechless), R. E. Thompson (Ripon Abbey), S. Bryce (Hakanoa), W. Ryan (Stormy), H. Lulieu (Rahepoto), and R. McTavish (Pegaway). Cook Leads Trainers The Te Awamutu mentor, A. Cook, led the winning trainers’ list with three wins, including a dead-heat— Pegaway, Speechless and Te Ngeru. J. H. Wallace (Te Aroha) led in Lovecall and Valkon, and C. E. Mallowes (Te Aroha) was successful with Nancy Lee and Indolent, a dead-heater. Other winning trainers were: C. L. Lowe (Gordonton), Mangani; A. Tinker (Te Rapa), Foreign Fancy; J. Williamson (Ellerslie), Corinax; W. Stone (Te Awamutu), Schorr; R. A. Edwards (Frankton Junction), Komak; R. Hannon (Cambridge), Ripon Abbey; B. S. Paterson (Huntly), Hakanoa; F. E. Loomb (Te Awamutu), Flying Prince; J. F. Tutchen (Frankton Junction), Stormy; S. E. Clinkard (St. Heliers), Rahepoto; and G. Johnston (Matama.ta), Leitrim.
