MAHENO ENCOUNTERS VIVID ELECTRIC STORM
A VIVID electric storm, during which lightning flashed incessantly and rain poured down in torrents, was encountered by the Union Steam Ship Company’s Maheno during her trip from Sydney. It began about 8 o'clock on Sunday evening and lasted . through - out the night. “Most of us ‘had the wind up’ properly,” said one of the passengers on the Maheno, which arrived yesterday. “I have never seen such continuo-us lightning, and it was accompanied by reports like cannon. A thunder-bolt fell into the sea some distance from the ship and made a terrific explosion."
