LABOUR IN ROSKILL

UNITED BORROWING SCOUTED Mr. A. S. Richards, Labour candidate for Roskill, speaking at a wellattended meeting last evening at Mount Roskill, said it was a stupidity to expect electors to take seriously the borrowing proposal of Sir Joseph Ward. “How does Sir Joseph square his scheme with the excessive borrowing of the Reform Party?” asked the candidate. “He condemned it in the 1927 session, and now asks electors to support a programme which would involve serious trouble in the future. In any case, the latter-day Liberals were equally responsible wjth Reform, for the financial burdens people are asked to carry to-day.” Mr. Richards urged his audience to take no heed of the election calls of the Uniteds. At the close of the meeting, a vote of thanks and confidence in the candidate was passed.
