COSTLY REFORMS
UNITED AND LABOUR PUNS MR. ROLLESTON OPENS Press Association TIMARU, Tuesday. The Hon. F. J. Rolleston, Minister of Justice, opened his campaign for the Timaru seat to-night, when addressed a sympathetic meeting at the Theatre Royal. Ho outlined what had been accomplished by tlie Reform Government during the past three years and its policy for the future. He criticised the policies of the Labour and United Parties to show they were greatly inferior to the Reform policy. Referring to Sir Joseph Ward’s proposal for a loan of £70,000,000, Mr. Rolleston said it was impracticable on the terms suggested and very costly. Labour proposals, if given effect to, were still more costly and would involve more borrowing than under Reform. Touching on Labour’s professed interest in the farmers, Mr. Rolleston said that when protection for the vital wheat-growing industry was before the House of Representatives, Labour voted solidly against it. The Reform Government had striven for goodwill and industrial peace among all classes. Progressive development and national safety were its objectives.
