MOTOR-CYCLIST’S TEARS

LURID HOME-TRUTHS ■‘ROAD-HOG” WAS A GIRL A Wellington business man was proceeding along the Hutt Road at a good pace toward town, when a motor-cyclist came up swiftly on his left-hand side and swung right across the front wheels of the vehicle. The bumper of the car caught the rear wheel of the cycle. and rider and machine fell in a heap on the bitumen. Although well aware of the tenacity with which the motor-cyclist clings to life, the motorist expected to find little worth picking up, as, white and shaken, he descended from his car (says the “Dominion.”) He therefore received something of a shock to discover the victim of the occurrence merely somewhat dazed, and the cycle not much the worse for its experience. Astonishment soon gave place to anger, and for about five minutes lurid home truths concerning “road hogs” were hammered into the dazed wearer of the overalls. Words failed at last, and as he ceased, the indignant car driver was amazed to behold two big tears trickle slowly from beneath the dusty goggles. One gauntletted hand slowly unfastened and removed the leather helmet — to disclose the fact that the offender was a girl!
