GUNPLAY AND MURDER

Two Amazing Dramas

DESPERATE battles fought (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press AssociatioyiJ^ Received 1.3 p.m. LONDON. Sundav. SCENES rivalling those of the movies were enacted in Germany and in Morocco during the week-end, with desperate gv.n-play and murder.

The first occurred at Cologne. Three desperate bank-robbers defied capture by the police in a surrounded house. Two of the suspects emerged and were told to put their hands up. Instead, they fatally shot a constable an d wounded another. Reinforcements captured the pair, who were placed in a motor-car, from which they escaped. Though wounded, they kept up a running fight. They shot dead a motorist who refused them a lift, took the car and eluded motors and motor-cycles carrying police pursuers. A third suspect meanwhile exchanged shots from the house, but

surrendered to the superior forces without. The other episode occurred near Casablanca. Two merchants, Pomares and Jubiaga, tried to outdistance four mounted Moorish bandits, whose rifle-shot pierced the petrol-tank and stop the car. Deciding that three prisoners were too many, the Moors cold-bloodedly shot the chauffeur and made the merchants double-bank on a pony. A French official named Rossier pursued with an armoured car. The Moors, with deadly fire, killed Rossier. While the fight was at its height, Pomares crawled to his rescuers. The Moors escaped with Jubiaga and much loot.
