UNITEDS AT ROTORUA
CANDIDATE RECEIVES OVATION (From Our Own Correspondent) ROTORUA, To-day. Mr. C. H. Clinkard, the United Party’s official candidate for the Rotorua seat, addressed a packed house in the Queen’s Theatre last evening. The Mayor, Mr. J. N. McLean who presided, briefly referred to services rendered in various public positions by Mr. Clinkard. On rising to speak, the candidate was given a great ovation. Pie severely criticised the Reform Government, and said a change was essential. Dealing with the present land policy Mr. Clinkard said that farmers had paid too much land when the boom was on. He considered food supplies should not be taxed, and there would be a decrease in unemployment if everyone bought New Zealand goods. He criticised the Government’s hydro-electric works at Mangahao. which, he said, cost five and a-half times more than the estimate.
Numerous questions were answered, and a vote of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously.
