Speedy Comedy
“GOOD MORNING JUDGE!” Reginald Denny’s Latest Success SPEED and mirth-provoking humour of a new and novel kind characterise “Good Morning, Judge!” Reginald j Denny’s latest comedy-drama, made under the Universal banner. This delightful story of a young man who posed as a repentant criminal to win his lady-love is hooked for the Plaza and Tivoli.
Denny is an Englishman, and his touches of typical English reserve contrast excellently with the situations in which he is placed. Supporting him is a cast that includes Mary Nolan, Otis Harlan and Dorothy Gulliver.
The story of “Good Morning, Judge!” tells of Freddie Grey, a rich young man
who. makes an
appearance in court following a fracas at a boxing match. He is fined, but discovers that his pocket-book is missing. Freddie is about to be put in gaol when Julia Harrington, a young social worker, pays his fine “to give
him a fresh start.” He conceals his identity under an assumed name, and allows her to believe that he is a criminal who has “reformed.” Julia engages Freddie to work for her and he discovers that she is being robbed by her manager. At aparty he sees the manager stealing the jewels of the guests, and discovers the hiding place of the loot. He is removing the jewels when the guests discover him and misinterpret the situation. A free fight follows but, in the end, the manager is unmasked, and Freddie’s identity is disclosed.
The picture is well photographed, plausibly constructed and excellently mounted. Throughtout the acting of every character is particularly good, but the cheery Denny dominates each situation. His host of followers are bound to be pleased with “Good Morning, Judge!” for it is one of his best pictures to date.
