TUDOR, REMUERA
“DIAMOND HANDCUFFS” An unusual type of drama entitled “Diamond Handcuffs”* is now being shown at the Tudor Theatre, Remuera. The play opens in Africa, where the theft of a diamond in the mines is shown, a native miner sacrificing his life to get the stone for a half-caste siren. Later its sinister shadow is seen in society, when it precipitates a social scandal, and then, through theft, it descends into the underworld, to plunge gangs and police into warfare and further spread death and tragedy. Eleanor Boardman, Conrad Nagel and Lena Malena have leading roles. The second attraction is entitled “The Heart of Maryland,” and the star is Dolores Costello. The story deals with the time of the American Civil War. ST. MARY’S FAIR St. Mary’s Hall, Parnell, will be the scene of a fair on Wednesday and Thursday next, in the afternoon and evening, in both cases. Stalls will sell plain and fancy work, toys, flowers, cakes, sweets, produce, etc. Cake competitions have been arranged. Variety* entertainments will be staged in the evening.
