COLLEGE BOXING
SACRED HEART TOURNEY BOYS GIVE GOOD DISPLAYS Some clever boxing was witnessed at the annual tournament held at the Sacred Heart College last evening. The boxing throughout was well up to the best standard of the college. The college championship was won by p. Hura, after a capital fight against M. Smith, both of the boys giving a fine display. A splendid exhibition bout was also given by R. Cross, a pupil of the college, and D. Grant, a visitor. Brother Benignus. director of the college, presided. Officials were: Referee, Mr. F. Burns; timekeeper, Mr. T. Finer; announcer, Mr. W. Dervan. The medal for the most scientific display of boxing was won by A. Macdonald. Results: 4st. 101 b. Class.—W. Duffy drew with J. Duffy. ost Class. —G. Hennessey beat T. Butler, after an interesting bout. sst 71b. Class.—C. Moran beat R. Williams. 6st Class. —Ralph Bailey beat William Bailey. 7st 71b Class. —Semi-final: A. Sevi beat G. Drysdale; S. Wilson beat B. Cassidy. Final: A. Sevi beat S. Wilson after a bright display, in which both lads showed up well. Sst 41b Class. —Jack Bakalich beat Harry Clarke. Sst 81b Class.—V. Payne beat 2*. Fitzjohn. 9st Class.—Semi-final: F. Welsh beat ,T. Cogney; .T. Jamieson beat .T. Foote. Final: J. Jamieson beat F. Welsh. 9st 101 b. Class.—A. Macdonald beat T. Barker. Macdonald gave a very pleasing exhibition. * lost 41b Class.—E- O’Connor beat C. Redwood. lOst. Sib. Class.—Semi-final: C. Jones beat A- Duncan. Final: M. Smith won by default from C. Jones. 12st. Class.—P. Hura beat Tuki Dixon.
The special bout for college champion was a first-class exhibition between P. Hura and M. Smith, Hura proved the cleverer boxer and won after a close contest.
