CABLE-RADIO MERGER
TO FUNCTION NEXT YEAR (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. noon. LONDON, Friday. The Government is introducing a Bill In November authorising the cable-wireless merger, comprehending the Eastern and its subsidiaries. Pacific and West Indian Cables, Australian wireless, British beam, Marconi wireless, and Marconi manufacturing. It is understood that further legislation will be necessary by Australia, New Zealand and Canada concerning the respective interests of the" Pacific cable and Australian wireless. It is not anticipated that the merger will be fully functioning before the end of 1929. Lord Inverforth, on behalf of Marconi, and Sir John DenisonPender, on behalf of die Eastern, with with the co-operation of the Pacific and West Indies companies, bought from the County Council an Embankment site for £310,000, on which to erect the merger offices, costing £500,000.
