CONFIRMED THIEF
BARBER’S LONG UST “DEAR, DEAR,” SAYS MAGISTRATE A barber. Alfred Ogier, aged 48, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to the theft of a fur valued at £8 Bs, the property of Gertrude Rita Walsh. He also admitted stealing a coat valued at £5 from Keith Dyer and a watch valued at 6s 6d. Sub-Inspector McCartl£y explained that, as Ogier had already pleaded guilty on one charge, his desire to be tried by a jury would rather complicate things. Ogier: There is a lot of lies being - told about me. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: I have heard none of them so that is alright. Chief-Detective Hammond said that the fur had been taken from a backyard and was shortly afterwards discovered in Ogier’s possession. The coat and watch had been taken from a boardinghouse, where accused had been staying. “He is a confirmed drunkard and thief and is at present out on licence,” concluded Mr. Hammond. “Dear, dear,” said Mr. Hunt, as he ran his eye down Ogier’s list, “theft, theft, theft —a month in gaol Is the only thing for him.”
