STRAND
i BATTLES OF CORONEL AND FALKLAND ISLANDS” An all-British programme, headed by ‘The Battles of Coronel and Falkland, ’ Islands” is now being screened at the Strand Theatre. This film depicts in a vivid and authentic manner the disastrous battle of Coronel during which the ‘‘Good Hope” and the “Monmouth” were sunk, and the successful British engagement in which the German squadron, under the command of Von Spee, was defeated, and, with the exception of the “Dresden,” sent to the’ bottom oi the ocean. , The gallant British sailors, fighting at Coronel against overwhelming odds, met their end with a. gallantry that shows that England’s men ever live up to their age-old traditions. Eater at Falkland Islands, when the Germans were forced into an encounter, they, too, behaved in a very gallant and heroic manner. Preceding the screening of the photoplay is a very effective and highly appropriate prologue, entitled “Leaving Port.” A number of well-known nautical songs are sung charmingly by the Clarion Quartet, and Madame Valeska’s Tihv Tot Ballet presents a very clever dance interlude. Eve Bentley’s Strand Symphony Orchestra provides a special programme of well known and favourite British musical gems. 4- selection from “H.M.S. Pinafore” is the overture. , Another attraction which should prove very popular is the first pictorial representation of the Homes of Our Kings and Queens. An amusing cartoon and a Strand Magazine are on the programme. •
