He then took up surveying and civil engineering, amgained rapid promotion as a eurveyton the London County Council He was wounded twice in France, and being incapacitated for infantry service joined the Air Force. He was shot’ down over the German lines, and spen--13 weeks in German hospitals and a. prison camp, where he was courtmartialled nine times. He is a member of the executive of the Auckland provincial branch of thr New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mr. H. D. Mellsop, the candidate for Franklin, was bom in the electorate for which he is standing. He has been a member of the Franklin County Council, Otaua Drainage Board, the Waiuku Town Board and the Tuakan Town Board. He was also chairman of the Waiuku Patriotic Society during the war period, and president of the Franklin Sub-province of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. Mr. P. Keegan, the candidate for Waikato, is New Zealand-born and a farmer by occupation. For ZZ years he held land in the Bay of Plenty, and served for a number of years on the Whakatane County Council, Borough Council and Harbour Board. •He was also first president of the Whakatane Agricultural Association, president of the Taneatua Railway League, the Farmers’ Union and the Whakatane Chamber of Commerce. He has had wide experience in all matters relating to the welfare of the country in land settlement and finance. . and has been an organiser for the New Zealand Farmers' Union during the past three yeays.
