DIOCESAN HIGH SCHOOL
“THE TEMPEST” STAGED A large audience appreciated the performance of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” which was given last evening in the Scots Hall by the pupils of the Diocesan High School, the parts being played entirely by the girls. The play was staged in aid of the funds for the school playing fields,* and was a most creditable performance. The cast was as follows: Shipmaster, Gwen Kingston; Boatswain, Marjorie Low; Alonso, Marie Conlan; Sebastian, Betty Todd; Antonio, Alice Stanton; Gonzalo, Molly Reardon; Prospero, Athlea Parker; Miranda, Kathleen Milne; Ariel, Joyce Howie; Caliban, Ruth Wright; Ferdinand, Mary Williams; Adrian, Valerie Canavan: Francisco. Peggy O’Neil; Trinculo, Molly Macklow; Stephano,
Mary Plugge; Iris, Kuna Butcher; Ceres. Joan Cummins: Juno, Lois Mahon. Joyce Hawie’s graceful interpretation of the sprite “Ariel*' was exceedingly good. Another outstanding performance was that of Miss Ruth Wright, who played Caliban. The dances of the sprites and nymphs were daintily executed, and the songs by Miss Hoskin and the choir were well rendered, the Incidental music being adapted from A. Sullivan’s setting. The play was produced by Miss Desmond, and the dances arranged by Miss Searle. The costumes were very well designed, and the acting of the whole cast was good. “The Tempest” will be presented again this evening.
