AUCKLAND BUILDING SOCIETY The Auckland Co-operative Termtnatinsr Building: Society advertises in this issue that this month’s meeting for appropriations is to be held at St. James’s Hall on the 31st inst., at 7.30 p.m., when C 10,400 will be distributed by ballot and sale by tender. Members must make themselves “financial” for the meeting not later than Monday, 29th inst., and it is very important to keep all shares financial.

’WARE OF THE SALESMAN ADVICE TO INVESTORS (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Small investors especially those not familiar with market conditions, should always secure the advice of an accredited financial expert before making an investment, according to Mr. Harmon Reeves, chairman of the New Zealand Stock Exchange Association, which opened its annual conference in Dunedin to-day. Mr. Reeves said he would like to join hands with the Press of the Dominion, which had of late been directing attention to the practice of share-selling by individuals among unsuspecting people who, in many cases, had been victimised. Investors would be well advised when approached by those share salesmen to communicate with a member of the Stock Exchange before signing any application for shares That warning was necessary, as several cases had come under the notice of members where people had taken up shares without making proper investigations as to their prospect of success, only to find their capital had been lost. It did not follow that a prospectus submitted by someone other than a member of the Stock Exchange was necessarily doubtful, but. the chances were that there was a “fly in the ointment” somewhere, not the least of which was that the cost of selling shares by canvassers was greater than a company could possibly pay. It. was known of a forestry compnnv selling bonds where the cost of raising the capital was stated to amount to 14 per cent. It would be interesting to know how many companies could ultimately prosper which had to start off by paying such a high initial cost. for their capital. THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY COMPANY ACTIVITIES The butter-fat returns and the pav-out of the Northern Wairoa Co-operative Dairy Factory show a substantial increase for September, and the period ended September compared with last season. The pay-out for last month at Is 4d a lb. butter-fat will amount to £19,654, against £17,111 for September, 1927, when the rate was Is 3d a lb. For the the total distribution is £<>4,593, against £29,527 for the corresponding period of last season. * * * A successful month has been experienced by the East Tamaki Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, a distribution being made of £8,030, at the rate of Is 6jd a lb. butter-fat, as against £5.349 for September last year. Butter made for the month totalled 57 tons 7cwt., against 36 tons for September of last year. * * * The Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Association will pay £9,000 to suppliers for butter-fat supplied during September. The increase in supply from June 1 to September 31 is 25 per cent., compared with the corresponding period last year.
