OUT OF GAOL
Bookmaker Tells of His Operations TAPPING WIRES Reed, 9.5 am. SYDNEY, To-day. Matthew Biggar, who recently voluntarily sequestrated his estate, anti who has been in a debtors’ prison, applied to-day for release from gaol. Examined in bankruptcy, he said he had followed the occupation of a bookmaker in Victoria. New Zealand. and Queensland, under the name of Patrick Dalton. He had been identified with gaming-houses on the Continent. He denied that he was not allowed to land in America, or that Tom Heenev put up guarantees for him. Biggar explained that Dr. Bohrsmann had blamed him for losing £IO,OOO in Atlantic City in a syndicate in which wires were to be tapped for race results. The magistrate ordered Biggar’s release from custody, pending completion of the examination.
