Pratten's prophecy that a Celanese factory would be establishing in Australia, the Australian Press Association understands that no further consideration has been given the project, to which the Celanese company says it never was seriously committed. Inquiries suggest the view that with incessant labour troubles in Australia, the project of consummation of the idea is most remote. THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY But ter-fat received by the Bay of Plenty Co-operative Dairy Association during September totalled 221,4181 b. The advance to suppliers at Is 6d a lb supertine makes tlut amount to be paid out on Saturday £16,169. Mr. C. Luke, chairman of directors of the association, in a monthly statement to suppliers, said the increase in the supply for September was 26.7 per cent., and for the season 31.6 per cent. The directors fixed the' progress payment for October butter-fat at Is sid a lb superline. The final payments on last season’s butter-fat will be paid out on November ■-U, and will be lid a lb for the supply in July. 1927; lid for August, 1927; Id for May, 1925; and lid for June. 1928. This will bring the cash pay-out for superfine up to Is 6d from July to April, Is 7d for May, and Is 7£d for June. With cartage added, the price will be slightly better than Is 6id for the whole year.

UNITED BUILDING SOCIETY A balance at credit of profit and loss account of £12,183 is shown in the 22nd annual report of the United Permanent Building and Investment Society. This includes £4,944 brought forward from last year. After deducting dividend payments at the rate of 7£ per cent, per annum in October, 1927, and April, 1928, and transferring £1,500 to reserve, £4954 is made available for distribution. This, the directors recommend, should see £3,107 go toward payment of a final dividend for the year of 75 per cent, and £1,500 to reserve, leaving £347 to be carried forward. The number of A shares in the society show an increase of 8,526 over the year to 84,884. compared with an increase of 8,597 for the previous year. Reserves now stand at £10,929. The annual meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 24. The retiring directors. Messrs. Robert Burns and Mr. Alfred Nathan offer themselves for reelection.
