FLYING ANGEL MISSION
NEW INSTITUTE NEEDED If finances permit a new and more commodious building will be erected for the Flying Angel Mission to Seamen within the next year. Tho popularity of this mission, at present situated in Emily Place, was stressed by the niissioner, the Rev. H. Iv. Vickery, in addressing the Diocesan Synod yesterday. Reviewing the work done daring the year Mr. Vickery said the mission was part of a church organisation which controlled stations in over 125 ports throughout the world. For 22 years the mission flag had flown over the Port of Auckland, and although it had been hauled down on two occasions, at the present time it was flying mast-high. The present mission, although adequate for the mission work years ago, certainly was not so at present. “No one was asked to what denomination they belonged when he visited the mission,” said Mr. Vickery. They make it possible for all men who sail the seven seas to visit the institute. Synod passed a resolution commending the aims of the mission to the clergy and laity of the diocese.
