Welle at to-day’s meeting of the Education Board, and his opinion was reflected by the other members. There was some more discussion on the department's proposed regulations for the selection of probationer teacher*. These directed the boards to select candidates on academic prowees alone. The department advised to-day that the importance of personal qualification was fully recognised in the scheme for the selection of probationers. The board’s secretary and the senior inspector both reported that they had written to the department and suggested the importance of personality. “In our department personality counts more than in any other branch,” said Senior Inspector C. W. Garrard. Mr. H. S. W. King: As long aa the*' have passed matriculation we should not ask for more. Mr. Garrard suggested that the department should be asked to add tut** clause to the proposed regulation ; “Provided that some other candidate, with lower qualifications, but not lower than matriculation.
