Bright Colours at Trots

The colours of the rainbow were seen again to-day at the closing of the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting at Alexandra Park. The hat of wider proportions has definitely arrived, and it ensured two things, no more frowning of faces, or eyes blinking in the sun as the progress of the field was watched, and no more inelegantly short skirts. A woman only has to try on a bigbrimmed hat to realise that she must lengthen her skirts or else present an unforgiveable appearance of topheaviness. Beautiful and formal ensembles of georgettes or lace intermingled with trim little jumper suits finished with a carelessly-tied handkerchief scarf, and both were equally smart. Floral fabrics appeared in a few charming gowns, and everywhere colour flowed across the scene like a tropical pageant. It patterned the drabness caused by the mere men’s attire and voiced everywhere the triumphant testimony that women have fearlessly decided to be as bravely resplendent as Nature herself. Among those present were: Mrs. Jack Phillips, navy blue tailored ensemble with golden fox furs, and navy blue hat. Mrs. Green, navjr blue coat over frock to tone and black* hat.
