SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME
CONTRIBUTION SYSTEM PAYMENTS BY EMPLOYEES Employees in institutions in Engian. and elsewhere are now payipg a it* pence a week for the establishing: of scholarships to be competed for bj the children of the contributors, according to a repprt presented by ft; registrar at yesterday’s meeting of tl Auckland University College Council For example, it continued, the po.' office staff in Plymouth, England, at cost to each subscriber of a penny 0 so a week, had established scholarships at the university colleges of th-south-west for the children of post*, workers in Plymouth. There must be at least a few concerns in Auckland which were ableto handle such a scheme. To the employees of these concerns there would be a strong appeal in the provision at a practically negligible cost a head a week of a full-time university edncation for the most brilliant of their children. Sir George Fowlds said the council would be acting wisely in adopting th* scheme. They could follow it up a 1 a later date, when a suitable oppor tunity presented itself. Time woui« be given for the public of Auckland to consider the scheme. The principle of the scheme wa* adopted. *
