COUNCIL ANNOYED WITH CONSERVATOR EXPENDING TIMBER ROYALTIES (from Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNCI, Monday The importau question of tkt upkeep of roads over which timbe millers are allowed to convey the pnduct of their mills Is one that vitall; concerns all King Country conntte and the Kaitieke County Council hi in several eases made special amujt ments, either direct, or on the sui gestion of the millers themseh®, whereby the roads are protected fret unrepaired damage. At its meeting on Saturday th council received a letter from th conservator of Forests, Mr. D. MacPherson, in which it was definite,; stated that no recommendation for th expenditure of these ratepayers “fifths” on any other road wonld bt given until they were reimbursed tot any expenditure made on the partta lar road they used. Other inforauttiot was curtly asked for, including the: covering the use of prison labour. A motion was carried expressing Binprise at the arbitrary tone of the tooservator’s letter, and questioning hi, power to dictate as to how thnbe royalties belonging to the count; should be spent.
