FORESTRY MISSION
DELEGATES’ NORTHERN TOUR KAURI FORESTS LOST (Special to THE SUN) . WELLINGTON, To-day. Tongariro National Park is now being visited by the 50 delegates who are touring New Zealand in connection with the Empire Forestry Conference. They arrived back from the South Island much impressed with what they saw. The consensus of opinion among the delegates was that, where practicable, reafforestation with indigenous trees was to be commended, but that with exotics New Zealand had made wonderful progress, although there was still much more room for experiment. After visiting Tongariro National Park the delegates will go to Taupo and Rotorua. The extensive plantations in the neighbourhood of Rotorua hold a special interest for the visitors. During the two days spent at. Rotorua itself the conference will resume its sittings. From Rotorua the delegates will go on to Auckland and finisn their tour of the Dominion’s forests by visiting the famous kauri forests.
