The annual balance sheet and revenue accounts of the L.T.A. of Australia show that a most satisfactory 12 months, ended March 31, 1928, was passed through, in which the association made a profit of £3,390 on the French visit alone. Tr 4 sl4 M 4 “Tilden’s suspension ‘indefinitely’ by the Lawn Tennis Association of America is the biggest surprise of the year. Considering what Tllden has done for the game, it was hoped that he would only be warned and then forgiven. His loss will be a great Plow to the standard of play in America.”— Sydney “Referee.” Says the Sydney “Referee” of a match in American championships: “The gallery was not fair to Cochet when against Shields. As he was serving he was disturbed, by shouts of encouragement to Shields. This is new in tennis, the gallery for which has all over the world been very sporting. Andrews, of New Zealand: “Austin, Andrews, Olliff—two A’s and an O —these three, and possibly the second and third more than the first, because of their extra stamina, are likely to shine with increasing light. Nor is one at all certain that Keats Lester, who pressed Andrews closely in the final at Bournemouth last Saturday, will not redeem all his promise.”
ANNUAL MEETINGS Rangiriri.—Mr. J. A. Cook presiding. The balance sheet showed a credit of £9 4s. The following officers were elected:— President, Mr. J. H. Potter; secretary, Mr. J. S. Mills; treasurer, Mr. H. Austin; delegates to association, Messrs. Cook and L. Sanders; club captain, Mr. Mills; selectors, Messrs. B. McCutchan and T. Firth; ladies’ committee. Misses Lyon, Mills, McCutchan and R. Potter and Mesdames Gall, Sanders, Barraclougb and Pulham; men's committee, Messrs. Cook, Austin, Firth, Montgomery, Sanders, McCutchan, R. Belcher, W. Montgomery, R. Pulham and W. Stone. It was decided to open the courts next Satux'day. Papakura Methodist. —Mr. S. Evans presided. The balance sheet showed a credit of £l3 18s. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Rev. W. J. Elliott; president, Mr. Evans; secretai-y, Mr. T. C. Seaton; treasurer. Mr. Evans; captain, Mr. Seaton; vicecaptain, Mr. R. Geraghty; committee, Misses I. Richardson, H. Beams and M. Mack, Mrs. Huckstep, and Messrs. W. Kitson, R. Collecutt, Geraghty and Seaton. The opening of the courts was fixed for Saturday next. Tauhei.—Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Mr. A G. Paton; president, Mr. P. Clark; vice-presidents, Messrs. C. Rolling and C. Taylor; secretary, Mr S. Brown; auditor, Mr. J. Brown; committee. Mrs. F. Curphy, Misses M. Smith, E. Ward and Messrs. F. Curphy, T/ C. Cheeseman, R. Haycock and F. Jack. The balance sheet showed a credit of £24 7s 2d. It was decided to open the season on Saturday next.
