WAITOMO AFFAIRS
The Department of Health notified the Waitomo County Council last week that its contribution toward the cost of the sanitary inspector’s services had been increased. It was decided to ask the department for a monthly report of the work carried out by the officer, and to agree to the increased contribution. The Aratoro-Kopalci Settlers’ Association drew attention to the very bad state of the road between Kopaki and Te Kuiti. Recently, when a doctor was required urgently, he had been unable to get through owing to the road being impassable Councillors stated that they thought the road had always been negotiable by cars. No action was taken. A resolution was passed authorising the council to endeavour to raise the sum of £3,000 for the purpose of building workmen’s cottages in the county. It was decided to restrict the cost of each house to £SOO, so that one day’s pay would cover the rent.
