EARL OF ORFORD

_ - | DESCENDANT OF FIRST PRIME MINISTER OF ENGLAND VISITS AUCKLAND ON HEALTH TRIP. / _J FATHER OF LADY DOROTHY MILLS Famous names in the history of England arc recalled by the arrival in Auckland this morning of the Earl of Orford. His family name is Walpole and he is a descendant of Sir Robert Walpole, the first Prime Minister of England. Before leaving England the Earl made over his estate, Wolterton Park, near Norwich, to his heir, Robert Walpole, a distant cousin who is only 15 years of age and still at Eton College. Wolterton Park extends over 5,000 acres. It is a picturesque place and includes a fine Georgian mansion, which was originally built for the first Lord Walpole of Wolterton. Earl Orford, who is 74 years of age, has come to New Zealand on a health tour, and may stay here for a year or more. He is accompanied by the Countess and their daughter, the lion. Ann Walpole. The Earl has no heirs to the earldom, which, on his death, will become extinct for the second time. Robert Walpole is only the heir to the baronies of Walpole of Walpole, created in 1723, and Walpole of Wolterton. created in 1756. Lady Dorothy Mills is a daughter of the Earl of Orford by his first marriage. She has travelled extensively since her childhood and was the first Englishwoman to visit Timbucktoo. Lady Dorothy has also made an expedition to Liberia and has spent a good deal of time among the warlike tribes in North Africa. Her writings include several novels set in the East.
