FIVE OF FAMILY DROWNED FATHER DRIVES INTO RIVER Reed. noon. SYDNEY. To-day. While the Rev'. M. Benson, the rector of Bodalla, 257 miles south-west of Sydney, was motoring home with his family from his vacation tragedy overtook the party. On arriving at the Clyde River, Bateman’s Bay, early in the morning, Mr. Benson mistook the lights and drove into the river. Mrs. Benson and four of their children, of the ages of nine years to six months, were drowned. The bodies of two boys and one girl have been recovered. Those of Mrs. Benson and of another boy are missing. Mr. Benson stated that he tried desperately to rescue his wife, but she was held under the car hood by the rushing torrent. He Jus', managed to save himself by forcing open the door of the submerged car, and rising to the surface. He then obtained assistance and dived repeatedly but unsuccessfully.
